There are many layers of activity, conversation, thoughts, hypothesis and feelings at base camp.
Many!
Many multiplied by many personalities.
Many, and ever increasing with each subtle development and increment closer to sailing.
Musheir originally from Palestine and now settled in Sheffield is, like many others incredibly knowledgable about complex histories of Gaza, Palestine, West Bank, and Israel.
The heat of the day had cooled to another perfect evening, no insects biting or crawling, conversations still fervently being shared. A midnight meal again turned to politics. And i witnessed Musheir hesitating, then saying he was saturated............... a pause, a mouthful of food, perhaps an intake of breath, and then he could not resist!! This conversation bubbled into the small hours.

The people here are passionate about Gaza and the Palestinian struggle. You'd have to be to risk your life and sanity for this mission. So, why am I here?
?
I have no history or heritage that pulls me. I have very sparse background knowledge of the Gazaian plight.
I dj'd after a seminar/fundraiser run by a friend of a friend. The talk before the bands contained clear and relatively thourough information about Gaza and the intention to sail a ship through the blockcade, and quietly within I knew.
The action was bold. I liked that.
It tackled injustice very directly. I liked that too.
By being involved i could take a break from just wishing the world was a fairer place, just hoping that one day we would have equality of resources, wealth and freedom throughout our planet.
(So.............. i am having a break after all!)
This mission pivots on the fact that it should be legal. This is a cargo of humanitarian aid. A crew of peace-niks. We are travelling through international waters and then into Gaza waters. This is not Israeli territory.
