Welcome to my very first blog.
5 days and counting, till i leave home shores for Cyprus. In Cyprus my function will be secretarial, managing information for an exciting project to 'peacefully invade Gaza' -with a mission to create some much needed freedom.
I hope y'all follow my progress, I expect to have my eyes and mind opened by the journey.
Never normally a voracious politico, just generally annoyed and a bit vague.
Throughout the world there is injustice, poverty, lack of freedom and violence - but, i'm alright. My life is very sweet. I keep checking, and yes, it's still sweet.
Subjects usually on my mind range from how to further customize my clothes, visiting second hand shops, where and when the next party is, cuddles and snogs - getting lots of, and a general sense of liking/loving and being liked and loved. I like making things, arranging objects on canvas into perfect imbalance, this trait filters through into my housework too, (takes forever when your bothered how the olive oil and tobasco line up). I feel enriched by my child being happy.
But i'm about to invest my time and money to volunteer my services in some almighty direct action. Some people think i'm going on holiday... really i'm doing my bit to break the siege on Gaza. Although, I deserve a holiday.
I'll put links in, so we can all gen up on the 60 year history.
Here's one - this is the hub for the project.... www.freegaza.org
Basically, very basically, people of Gaza live in a big prison. No freedom to roam, trade with other countries, import medical or educational supplies. I'm looking at my table and imagining what would be there if nothing could be imported.... mmmm - maybe the table, nothing else. I might be sat here naked, my food cupboard would have carrots and apples, certainly no pesto, jars of chilli pickle. Maybe, being English, i wouldn't have even heard of chilli pickle.
Gaza has ground down into severe poverty and starvation is common.
The Free Gaza Movement is sending one or a series of ships from Cyprus to Gaza. Boats will be loaded with medical supplies and radical passengers from around the world.
One possible outcome is that the boat manages to travel through international waters and into the waters 3 miles from Gaza shores. Local fishermen haven't managed to exceed this 3 mile border without Israeli intervention.
Perhaps the boat will dock in Gaza, unload it's cargo, where some of the passengers will then go off to do voluntary projects, perhaps the boat will then return to Cyprus with passengers from Gaza. Perhaps the waters will then be free for trade and travel.
Perhaps... Israel would stop the ship from leaving at all.
